E.O. Wilson’s new book, A Window on Eternity, tells the story of the great naturalist’s recent exploration of the biodiversity of Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. The vicious civil war that rocked Mozambique from 1980-1992 wreaked havoc on the wildlife of Gorongosa — almost all of the larger animals in the park were killed. But concerted efforts by hundreds of locals have helped bring the park back from the brink of ecological collapse.
And now the wildlife is returning in droves. In documenting this restoration,
Wilson is able to see the forest for the trees and expounds philosophical on man and nature and the future of life on earth. Ever the optimist, Wilson helps us all see the good in human nature and how it can help heal the planet.
